Fuming doesn’t even begin to cover it.
I predicted the effect this would have on morale in Afghanistan, I also predicted it would make soldiers stop and think before opening fire, again, i was completely off-target on that one of the degree to which it has affected them.
This has not made the front line soldiers hesitate before opening fire, it has stopped them from returning fire altogether…
One father of a soldier currently serving in Afghanistan said this: “I can tell you as fact our boys out on the ground in Afghanistan are badly effected by this and are no longer firing back when fired upon. I know this because a few moments ago I spoke to my son who is currently in Afghanistan with his unit”
before adding his sons EXACT words: “those marines r getting shafted daddy, fucking piss take, no wonder these young lads r scared 2 shoot bk, cuz u ended up getting questioned over every god damn round u fire”
I… MUST… CALM… DOWN… and breathe…
No, fuck it, its not working, so here we go…
THIS is fucking disgraceful.
All this because some Royal’s had a conversation about whether to treat an insurgent, who moments earlier had been trying to top them… that’s normal… And, as it turns out, the conversation was not just whether they should treat him or not, but a risk assessment of whether treating him would compromise their own safety by using their own aid kits, which subsequently, they may need themselves due to continued action.
So, let me get this straight MOD, its OK to return fire when fired upon, its OK to take an insurgent down, but what is going to end their career and land them a spell in prison, is a risk assessment on their own safety????
FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU, AND ALL THE PEN PUSHING SUITS WHO WOULDN’T RECOGNISE ONE END OF A RIFLE FROM THE OTHER. AND FUCK YOU ALL WITH A CACTUS.
The long and short of it is this. This case, has all but fucked operational efficiency in Afghanistan. If the lads are now to scared to return fire on an insurgent for fear of being charged, then we have to ask ourselves, what is the point in having soldiers in theatre?
None, they clearly are too scared now, to do the job they have been sent to do, and do so well. So now what? well, one of two things might as well happen. Bring them home, or give them blue berets and re-task them as a peace-keeping force. I have been pretty vocal about this over the last week, and about it would affect morale, and i absolutely hate the fact i was right. This prosecution serves NO-ONES best interests. Not the Royal Marines, not the serving soldiers in-theatre, not even the government or the MOD. Its an affair that has turned our armed forces in to our armed farces.
The RoE are one thing, but when it comes down to the fact that our soldiers are now so scared of prosecution that they wont return fire, then we have a problem. The troops in Afghanistan have their hands tied enough as it is, now they have to contend with being held accountable for every round they fire and living with the knowledge that each round fired could land them on a murder charge.
The 5 Marines have all been granted anonymity, for fear their safety could be compromised… FROM WHOM???? the majority of the public are supporting the Marines and the rest are at best indifferent… The Marines were also charged in a behind-closed-doors hearing in Bilford Military Court.
Is it just me or does the excuse of keeping the Marines ID a secret smell funny to you also?
*sniffsniff* *sniff* *sniffsniff* i know that smell, its bullshit…
It has 3/4 of 5/8 of fuck all to do with their safety, and everything to do with silencing the Marines and their families. As i told you in yesterdays post (read yesterdays post here ) 3 commando brigade have issued instructions to Marines and their family to keep quiet on the subject, but it goes further afield than that, intel dribbling out from families and serving soldiers indicate that the whole of the armed forces have been issued silencing orders, with threats of criminal charges if it is broken.
This all indicates to me that something is going on the MOD want none of us to know about, or why else would it be so intent on silencing those who have information? Now, i am NOT a conspiracy theorist, i don’t believe the moon landings were shot in a basement, or that a UFO crashed at Roswell or that the JFK assassination was a CIA cover-up. What i do believe is that these guys are getting right-royaly fucked over, and for no-good reason i can see.
But worst of all, the boots on the ground, are suffering as a consequence. How many flag draped coffins are we going to see at RAF Brize Norton because they were to scared of prosecution to defend themselves against effective fire? none i hope, and if, and i pray it doesn’t but IF it does, i hope the MOD are tried for murder and held accountable for the unlawful deaths, i have a feeling this whole affair will result in.
Every soldier who has served, or is serving in Afghanistan, deserves praise and honour. But instead what do they get? locked up in a cell, labelled murderers and ignored by a government who sent them there in the first place. Lets not forget that the current statistics have the percentage at around 6% of all homeless are ex-service personnel… a very inditing report can about it can be read here.
Pure and simply, the MOD have all but killed morale in our armed forces. Something i fear will take a few years to recover from, and alas, i fear also we may see the casualty toll rise immeasurably over the coming months.
Congratulation MOD, i hope you all sleep soundly at night…
The public are making their feelings known on this one, and i fear a backlash. Peaceful protests have been organised all around the country on the Corps Birthday, the 28th of October, and a vigil outside MCTC Colchester has been organised for Sun 21st October. A link to the petition has been included at the bottom of this page, and i urge you all to sign it to make your voice count, after all, what is the point of democracy if no-one listens?
